What is CompassLearning Odyssey?

For the 2009-2010 school year, CMCSS has adopted a server-based math program called Odyssey Math from CompassLearning. This program will allow the teachers to go beyond standard classroom math instruction and differentiate mathematics learning on an individual student level. The students who use the CompassLearning Odyssey are assessed at the beginning of the year to find their strengths and weaknesses in key areas of instruction. The program looks at the results of the pre-assessment to assign a learning path to each student at his/her instructional skill level. Although the computer program may assign the list of activities in the learning path for the student, it did not create the learning path. The academic coaches from the CMCSS schools utilizing the CompassLearning program carefully selected the standards targeted by the assessment and addressed by the learning path. They screened the suggested activities within each grade level's learning paths and edited them to create what will best fit our students. The learning path focuses on specific standards for each grade/skill level. To strengthen the instruction, the teachers add individual assignments and activities to the students' paths so they are working on needs as well as current classwork with CompassLearning.

Important Links

When using CompassLearning on the student machines in our system, always use Safari, not Firefox. Firefox will not allow anyone to login if use from the student computers. The network techs are aware of this issue. It centers around the parental controls applied to the Student accounts on the Macs.

You must turn off any "Pop-Up Blockers" to allow the program to work fully.
